Mediation is best suited for those who are ready to work towards finding a common ground and reaching agreements but need someone to help guide the conversation to be purposeful and productive. Mediation allows for a space to share hopes, where they can be heard and where compromise and understanding can be achieved. The goal is to be actively working towards agreement through collaboration from both parties.
Mediation can be used in a variety of family situations including but not limited to divorce or separation. Mediation may also serve in supporting families who have reoccurring or difficult situations come up that may benefit from the support of a third party.
Mediation is not a substitute for family/couples counselling or therapy.
Mediation is not a substitute for, nor does it provide legal advice. It is recommended that each party seek Independent Legal Advice (ILA) before, during and upon final agreements.
One-on-one sessions to prepare for mediation. Learn how to effectively communicate your wants or needs, and tips to negotiate. This service is for those who have chosen to mediate with another mediator.
These sessions are held with both parties in the same space. It is the most effective way to collaborate and navigate the mediation process.
These sessions are held in separate spaces, where the mediator goes between the parties to relay each parties points and responses. These sessions can take more time but can be beneficial where one or both parties are uncomfortable in the same space but are still willing to actively work towards agreements.
This is not a formal separation agreement but rather a contract between parties as to how they define parenting time and decision making for their children going forward. This can be built into final separation agreement.
This is the formal drafting of the separation agreement. Once both parties agree to the terms the mediator will draft a final report for both parties to sign in the presence of a witness. It is advised to seek legal advice upon completion.
This mediation is best suited for one off situations that may not need extensive sessions but rather minimal support to get conversation going or to support reaching agreements or understandings on an as needed basis, such as in a couple/family or generational setting. (Non divorce or separation situation)
